Making aromatherapy gifts for the Holidays is a fun and easy thing to do! And you end up with a natural beauty product that has added health benefits! There are a lot of different ways to make an aromatherapy scrub – and a lot of different recipes – but if you are just starting out you will want to begin with a simple aromatherapy recipe. All of these recipes make an 8 oz. scrub.

For Holiday gifts, you can package your scrub in a beautiful glass container with a handwritten note

Keep-it-Basic Sugar and Salt Scrub

For first timers, there really are just a few basic ingredients that you need to make an aromatherapy scrub. This simple recipe combines sugar, salt, carrier oil, and just one essential oil for a simple, but effective, scrub!

You will need:

  • 4 oz. brown sugar
  • 3 oz. Epsom salt
  • 1 oz. jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) oil
  • 85 drops lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) essential oil.

Instructions for Making:

  1. Combine together the sugar and salt in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add the jojoba oil; stir together.
  3. Add the essential oil; stir together.
  4. Empty the mixture into a jar and attach the lid.

Coffee, Chocolate, and Vanilla Aromatherapy Sugar Scrub

I love sugar scrubs! Unfortunately I do not make them as often as I should! There are many different essential oils that you can add to sugar scrubs – depending both upon skin type and the problem that you are trying to address – but a fun recipe to try for the Holidays is this simple coffee, chocolate and vanilla aromatherapy sugar scrub.

You will need:

  • 7 oz. brown sugar
  • 0.75 oz. jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) oil
  • 0.25 oz. shea (Butyrospermum parkii) butter
  • a teaspoon of raw honey
  • 50 drops of coffee bean (Coffea arabica) essential oil
  • 20 drops of vanilla (Vanilla planifolia) absolute
  • 25 drops of cacao (Theobroma cacao) absolute.

Instructions for Making:

  1. Place the brown sugar in a mixing bowl.
  2. Heat up water in a small pan; do not boil. You just need it hot enough to start melting the shea butter.
  3. Place a pyrex container containing the shea butter (do not take it out of the container; just place the container in the water) into the pan and add the jojoba to it. Melt the contents together.
  4. Once the shea butter and the jojoba are melted together, remove the pyrex container from the heat and combine the mixture with the sugar. If the shea butter mix begins to solidify before you mix everything together, re-heat it for a minute.
  5. Stir in a teaspoon of raw honey.
  6. Add the essential oils and stir together. Absolutes may need pre-heating before they are liquid enough to mix in.
  7. Empty the mixture into a jar and attach the lid.

Decadent Salt Scrub with Rose Absolute

A three mix salt scrub with luxurious rose(Rosa x damascena) absolute to scrub away dry winter skin! If you can’t afford rose, substitute with geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) essential oil. In addition, you can use rose essential oil but it is a lot more expensive than rose absolute.

You will need:

  • 2 oz. Dead Sea fine grain salt
  • 2 oz. Epsom fine grain salt
  • 2 oz. Himalayan (pink) fine grain salt
  • 1 oz. sweet almond (Prunis dulcis) oil
  • 0.25 oz. pomegranate seed (Punica granatum) oil
  • 0.25 oz. rosehip (Rosa canina) oil
  • 50 drops of rose (Rosa x damascena) absolute.

Instructions for Making:

  1. Place each of the salts in a mixing bowl and stir together.
  2. Add each of the carrier oils (sweet almond, pomegranate seed, and rosehip) and stir together.
  3. Add the absolute and stir together again. Absolutes may need pre-heating before they are liquid enough to mix in.
  4. Empty the mixture into a jar and attach the lid.
